Thailand - around Kanchanaburi

Death Railway Bridge (Bridge over the River Kwai)

This little railway bridge is not nearly as impressive in person as the dramatic story that made it famous. The first version of the bridge, completed in February 1943 (was all wood)In April in the same year a seconde bridge of steel was constructed. In 1945 the bridge was bombed several times by allied planes and was only rebuilt after the war.

Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and War Museum

Museum has many of the original trains + other vehicles used by the Japanese Army and in the centre is a Temple with amazing carvings and statues.

Kanchanaburi War Cemetery

Resting place for all the allied soldiers who died during the building of the bridge.
