Scooter rental is cheap and advisable if you do want to explore further than the beaches close by the town. Accommodation is plentyful and not expensive if you search carefuly. The usual activities of diving, deep sea fishing and sea kayaking are all availlable in the main town Ban Sala Dan. Recommended for visits are the cave at Tham Khao Maikaeo. A local family guide you through the jungle and into the cave, but be ready to get wet and muddy. The Marine National Park Headquaters are on the southern tip of Ko Lanta at Laem Tanod. From here there are some hiking trails and some boat tours of the islands protected by the National Park.
